Description

This immature Great Egret was resting in the lake behind our home. He/she had a damaged right foot and held it off the ground. No predators in this lake so it is safe. Wikipedia says - The great egret also known as common egret or great white heron has all white plumage. It is distributed across most of the tropical and warmer temperate regions of the world. In North America it is widely distributed. Standing up to 3.3 feet (1 meter) tall, this species can measure 31 to 41 inches (80 to 104 cm) in length and have a wingspan of 52 to 67 inches (131 to 170 cm). Body mass can range from 1.5 to 3.3 pounds (700 to 1,500 grams). Apart from size, the great egret can be distinguished from other white egrets by its yellow bill and black legs and feet.
