Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Superb capture Andrea. God bless.

The thing about hydrangeas is their longevity in bloom! Even when they are faded they just go on and on! Resilience is a rare commodity in the floral world and in (most) people these days!

I'm going to get a tattoo reading "Best Before Aug 15, 2014" and perhaps add "Discard after Aug 15, 2015." LOL!

Fabulous capture though I really think you should smile more! Really, you should!

My first freshness is long past - nothing to brag about on this end but you look great Andrea and we all look forward to decades of outstanding photos from you and Tizzy!

Ah yes, but there's a different sort of beauty in age, isn't there? I like the comparison.

Excellent shot and it's good to see you Andrea, I do so like the interior shots because even if I did not know I would have deciphered this was a home of a creative person.. in short.. an artist. This is a lovely shot.

I like this, one the best self-portraits I've seen, I think. Subtle and beautiful, Andrea!

Love your sentence about freshness. (I'm 70..)

Hehe, hoho, are you angry about the hydrangeas, Andrea?

I'll be doing a long session here in two parts, Andrea, and will pick up for more, tomorrow. And, once again, having to pick and choose from so many pieces of yours ain't easy: I have to skip images I love. But as I always say, know that i've seen everything. I don't miss a one. And now to this... I love your gaze---something very penetrating about it, powerful. Fashion photographers but also fine-art photographers go for gazes like this because they're so evocative. But you've got yourself over all that flora. Your head almost seems to be peeking 'out' of them, or growing out of them. And you can say you're faded, but you're vital and intense, a serious side to you. Maybe you were just posing for the shot, but it feels very intense and inward. And the background makes for a really fine still life. With Denise, I think this is a super self-portrait, very thoughtful and evocative, showing your beauty and inner thought. (The black and white is intense in a way all its own.) And I like that clock, btw, and the circled image below it---that's dogs, but the circle is repeated from above. Even your necklace---appearing for just a small swath---is a fine accent. An arresting portrait, with your usual sense of composing an image from so many diverse elements, and still getting a single feel out of it all...
