Description
This is one of the castles in southwestern France known as the Cathar Castles. It's mostly just a shell of a building in ruins & is located high in the mountains.
The Cathars were a religious sect who were persecuted mercilessly by the French monarchy under the direction of Pope Innocent III (there's an ironic name) in a military crusade that lasted from 1209 to 1229. Entire towns were destroyed & their residents slaughtered. After the crusade was over, they established an inquisition to mop up the remaining Cathars - anyone who refused to renounce their faith was either hanged or burned at the stake. Unfortunately, the same kind of religious fanaticism & barbarism is still going on today - in Iraq & Syria.
I used the Ink Outlines filter in Photoshop to give this a more graphic look...

I quite agree with you...kill kill kill and to God be the glory is all to common and not confined to Christian and Moslem...thank you for the photo of the castle though, always wondered what they looked like

I am in two minds about this filter which I use myself. I do like this very much, but I would like to see the original as it such a great composition.

I also am a bit distracted by the filter; I love the shapes of the ruins, and I find myself trying to focus into the doorway(s), but foiled by the dots. I can understand why you tried it, and I might have done the same. But if I were using it I might try it on a layer by itself as an overlay and play with the transparency until it's less obtrusive. At any rate it's a wonderful POV, and looks like a fantastic ruins site!

while the image is interesting with this filter, I would like to see the original Ah Yes! let's kill those heathen bastards because they don't believe in our god the way we do!

I'm fascinated by the stonework. The construction of the arched doorways could have been done last week. Marvelous!

Amazing stone work for 800 years ago and a nice choice of filters!
