Description
The Chateau de Chambord is the largest & one of the most famous of the castles of the Loire Valley. It features 440 rooms, 282 fireplaces, and 84 staircases. Not surprisingly, it was viewed as a prime example of the outrageous opulence & decadence of French royalty by the newly formed Revolutionary government & in 1792 they held a kind of garage sale there in which even wall panelings & floors were sold & ornate doors were burned to keep the rooms warm during the sale. During the Franco-Prussian War, it was used as a field hospital & during World War II, art collections from the Louvre (including the Mona Lisa & the Venus de Milo) were moved there to protect them. It was also the inspiration for the castle in Disney's version of Beauty & The Beast...

What a visual fantasy this is! I love what you've done with the light, bringing out the oranges and creams and purples. Wonderful!
