Light programmer and professional 3D designer working out of Alaska.
I tend to be pretty extreme and enjoy sea kayaking, glacier skirting, freestyle mountain climbing, cross country cycling, as well as more solitary endeavors such as creative & technical writing, sound synthesis, and the various aspects of 3D design. Suck at sketching, though.
I've transitioned through several 3D programs over the years: starting with Rhino 2.0, then moving on to Cinema 4D, and currently working with Maya.

Lower your ambient light levels. Short of a sunny day with no clouds, some detail is lost that you have put a LOT of work into due to reflections.

thanks stealthman! It's a real honor having you post a comment! :) Now about that lighting, yeah, some of it was overexposed and could have easily been turned down a bit, but I was going to be late in submitting this for the challenge and haven't rerendered it since. The image is a composite of images, all taken from the same camera angle, and composited in photoshop. The filesize is just over 800MB in .3ds (and for those of you who are familiar with extensions that's just crazy!) so a single render was not feasible. Thanks for the comments everyone and for looking! I will be finishing this, most definately.

Very impressive! I'm reminded of the Art Deco flavor present within Fritz Lang's "Metropolis." I can see how an architect from the 1930s would imagine that to be the future of New York city. The buildings of that era had character and whether intended or not, you've certainly visualized that theme! Sincerely, Bill

You have done a great job modeling all those buildings! I realy like the style. I like the twin buiding idea.

Your going to have to get yourself a more powerful machine, this city would just be an awesome skyline. Or you could do dual renders like you did for the above. You have some mighty fine models here, it would be great to see them standing like you originally planned in your imagination. Awesome work.
