Description

This is a huge work of art called “The Daydream”. The sunbather was the size of an adult human so the naked women dancing in his dreams were huge. The photo was taken from a balcony in the back of the Key West Museum of Art and History at the Custom House, 281 Front Street, Key West, Florida, USA. This Sculpture was created as a collaboration between American sculptors Mortimer Blake and J. Seward Johnson. There was a second casting that is in a sculpture park in New Jersey, USA. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

An amazing find and a great shot. Judging by the wear around the bather, quite a few people must have lay down to take in the view.

Peter, a great observation, I should squeezed in there and had my photo taken - maybe the next trip down to Key West!

I think it's called The Dance, very striking blur, green and orange, and exactly poses as here minus the bloke.

The original model is a painting from the french painter Henri Matisse : Henri Matisse (1869-1954), La Danse, 1909, huile sur toile, 260 x 390 cm. One version belongs to the the Moma's collection, the other to the St Petersburg's Hermitage. Picasso and Matisse were in a friendly competition, but I had to fix this attribution error. Friendly, Marc.

I can see the sunbather's having very 'wet' daydreams. :P I THOUGHT the sculpture was based on some painting. One of the earlier comments (that by marcopol) pointed out what that painting was!
