Greetings to the people of Earth.
I've always wanted to say that! Now that I did, I can now get on with other things.
I'm a science fiction writer (not famous yet) born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I've lived in the Czech Republic and Germany, and though I am currently back in Chicago, much of my heart remains in the Czech Republic. Maybe it's the beer. Or the bread. I hope to live in Moscow soon, as a big portion of my heart already resides there. I've had an interest in science fiction since an early age and will probably maintain that interest for the rest of my life. I love SF, and anything else that embraces the spirit of discovery...or anything that chafes against the arbitrary boundaries of "conformity."Â
I discovered Renderosity a couple of years back when I was browsing the internet, looking for cool images to spark my imagination during a period of writer's block. It wasn't a serious block, but I needed something to make me ask the sorts of questions that I always ask before settling down to craft a short story or novella. Since that time, I've written quite a lot and I've begun to post photographs and other visual works that I created here...partially because I love the Renderosity community in general, and partially because the images and text-snippets that I have contributed here are something of an ongoing journal. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to journal keeping, and so posting picures of particular significance actually helps me to remember the things I want to remembe, without having to eat into my fiction writing time by writing non fiction. Well, at least that's my excuse and I am sticking with it.
I entered into the field of photography totally by accident; I'd always been interested in capturing small stories, but it wasn't until my journey to Europe that I began to consciously seek out tableaus that imply stories in progress. As a result of that, my writing is growing in unexpected directions, and I look forward to becoming more and more active here, and in other artistic/publishing fields.

and here I thought we were getting stoned. just shows to go you that nothing is what it seems - even grey (or is it gray?) stones, with a hint of blue and green to liven up the whole scene. interesting discussion chip Have a great day

and it appears that there are stones of a different stripe as well as those that are spotted amidst the other 'bland grey (or is it gray?) stones

Nothing is every only what it seems; grey is just a shade of black and white, which holds the essence of all colours anyway, so miniscule maneuvers in any direction will reveal another shade of some sort, if you have the right eyes to see it...excellent shot, Chip!

I love river rocks and have spent half my life, I think, staring into rivers for the perfect one. But they are never the same once you take them from the river.

First of all, I love the photo! Your ramblings make for a riveting read. I didn't read the novels in question, not my sort of thing at all. I'm reading Alan Bennet's Untold Stories at the mo, which is. Astonishing info about guns in galleries: so it's ok if it's not concealed. What about if it is shocking pink and encrusted with Svaroski crystals ? I'm told that little US princesses get such things for their birthdays, like I got a fork and trowel set.

Hi Chip...I've got about 100 pounds of that grey stuff in our shed...comes cheap at the Garden Department of Home Depot. Love the way you are able to make a fascinating photo out of the ordinary...and then create a story that rambles like water flowing over stones in streambed...catching the eye and the ear in the process...and exercising the imagination as well. Captivating.

These pebbles? reminded me of sweets I used to eat as a kid. Yes there were goodies like these. As for Shades of Grey, not my scene, more a James patterson, John Grisham sort of reader. Reading Game of Thrones at the mo. xx

Put me on the list of people who didn't read those books, and won't. All the reports I've heard that I trust say they're poorly written and rather boring. I'm currently entranced by Louise Penny's mystery series. It's actually calling me from across the room right now, but I'm shushing it in favor of art this afternoon. :P Every shade of gray has undertones. You can't just pick a gray and hope for the best. If you want it to GO with something and not just sit there looking dull and drab, you have to get the undertone you want. I mean ... just look at your picture. It's got yellow and green and blue, purple and orange and red, and all sorts of patterns, including stripes! LOVE the picture, btw. :)

Ok, I just have to say it---this rocks!!! And I tried reading the first of those books and almost feel asleep; boring, repetitive and stupid. BTW, my sister was in Chicago this past weekend for the marathon. She sent me fotos of the REDHEAD--she got there and you can only imagine how jealous I am!!
