Description

Marilyn, I wasn't able to do a 2D piece for you (mea culpa!)---I've been swamped with legal and family matters, and I'd wind up making a pic of Deeds and Contracts, which I know isn't your thing! So I chose a recent photo, threw whatever magic dust I had on hand, and voila, a Marilyn pic. (At least to me!) The lady looks nothing like you, mind you, but somehow crouching in the middle of a sidewalk, zeroed-in on some amazing sight no one else even noticed---that said "Marilyn" to me. EXCEPT---there are no mountains, no Sequoias, relatively few bears, no raging rivers, and no pick-up truck. I tried to get some mountains, btw---I ordered them from Amazon---but the police said, "Mountains??? In Chicago??? Get outa here!!!" So let me just say that I've seen you come through all kinds of experiences that would've slowed down most mountain lions, and you came through like a super nova...and you've built a great new life, with so much energy and commitment, and it's been just grand to watch. Those of us who know you know your energy can fuel a galaxy, your joy-for-life can lift the night, your love and heart are deep and highly infectious, and your eye is unstoppable. You find shots in places most of us never look; and even when you've been away from the camera for an eon, you point, you shoot and bang: Another Marilyn special!!! As your gallery attests. (It's here---beachzz---for those of you who've not been fortunate enough to see it.) So, though I didn't make a big, apocalyptic, orb-filled madhouse, I still 'felt' those things for you today. Happy birthday, you special lady; and many, many more, and I hope you have a splendid day---kayaking in the Himalayas, climbing a glacier, or navigating an old barn, risking your life to get a shot no one else would think of---and many, many more like it. You're a jewel, m'dear. With all my love and joy, your friend from the freezing gray rainy Midwest, Mark
(Everyone: I promise to come back in November and start commenting again! Just one more week... Oh, and this is 4 blocks from home, and it's much better zoomed! Happy BD, Marilyn!)

Mark, this is a truly wonderful birthday dedication for your friend. As always you take the time to explain your inspirations behind the image and in doing so allow us an insight into the way you see our wonderful world. The clever way you linked the lady in this photo to your friend Marilyn gave me a huge smile and showed us how caring and observant you are when it comes to your friends. Most important of all you're thoughtful words about her are certain to inspire all who view this.

There is so much to see here, not the least of which is her lovely indigo aura (intentional or just what the camera "saw" doesn't matter, it works beautifully!) I love those almost monumental concrete pylons roping off the grass area by the sidewalk, they look ancient. And the rich blues and greens of the foliage teeming behind her, against the wall with the wonderful lines of window shapes leading to the hint of a witch's hat cupola! A perfect dedi for Marilyn, in your unmistakeable style.

Cool shot of the lady crouching and resting her legs in front of the high contrast magic of the foreground natural foliage and background buildings. And, yes, a very Happy Birthday to our peripatetic adventurer, risking her life daily for the never ending thrill of being alive. Even at her maturing age, she must be contemplating a space walk, Antarctic biking, or a Sasquatch hunt by now, with or without flip-flops. Yea, let's hear it for our never-stop-moving Maz on this day of natal commemoration! Plus, autumn, fall, or not, it's still much too warm where I am….like 96º Fahrenheit in my patio today.

Thanks so much for this wonderful birthday gift!! That would be me and maybe it is. I must'be spotted some kind of rare flower or an urban creature and just HAD to get the shot!! Haven't done much shooting lately, but that could change here soon. We're heading to Montana, maybe Yellowstone and I think there just might be a foto op or two around there~!!

Full view is great. I particularly like the flatness you achieved with the background architecture. This has so much motion and energy and light and love ... it's a delight!
