Description
Volume II - Episode 81
Where: Cologne, Germany
When: 1 month and 13 days after E-Day, 1:44 am
Adrienne followed her team into action.
Bernier, Lachance and Dufresne had found cover on the left-hand side of the street, about a hundred metres from the Hexenjägern position. Ling and van der Berg were pinned down by heavy machine gun fire on the right. Adrienne watched as Ling flew backwards, flung back by the machine gun round that had punched into his body armour. van der Berg dropped to her knees and yanked him out of the line of fire.
The Hexenjägern soldiers had retreated behind their sandbag fortifications. Adrienne took cover in the front alcove of a post office and blind-fired her assault rifle around the corner. Bright red tracers flashed through the air in front of her.
A grenade skidded across the pavement and bounced through the shattered window of a souvenir shop across the street. "Pute!" Adrienne hissed as she dived to the ground. The grenade exploded, showering the street in debris and broken glass.
She rolled onto her right side and poked her head around the corner to locate the rest of her team. Bernier, Lachance and Dufresne had reached the bank just a few buildings away from the intersection where the Hexenjägern were dug-in. Ling and van der Berg knelt on the pavement across the road from them, taking turns to lay down suppressing fire from their position behind the burning carcass of a four-wheel drive.
And through all the noise and calamity of battle...
The distant rumble of an approaching tank.
Notes:
Hello!
Sorry for the long break between episodes. I had minor surgery in June which made it impossible for me to sit for a few weeks afterwards. Then I had a pulmonary embolism.
Now that my body has stopped trying to murder me, I've returned to writing my story. :)
