HALLOWEEN … Feast of Souls
Dark night of treats or tricks for ghosts and ghouls
Who give no hint of souls … true prototypes
For times accepting wealth and greed as sweet
Rewards for life. An age that only dubs
Its heroes men when the slay others for
Philosophies created by sick creeds
That still believe crusades are acts of God.
How happy Halloween might be if it
Became a feast of generosity
Without commercials selling everything
But love. If candles lighting pumpkins were
A holy preface to the Day of Saints.
If politics embraced earth’s sick and poor
Because the millions of these souls were made
By the Divinity who made us all.
If only age’s Halloween could be
As joyous as our children on parade
We’d see life’s preface to eternity.

Wonderful sentiments but I fear that, in a world where everything is monetized, there will be a great destruction of the old before something new can take its place.
