Description

The Me-410 was an improved version of the woefully flawed Me-210, although even the 410 was not liked by it's pilots and it's combat record was far from inspiring. This U2 sub-type has provision for a ventral weapons container mounting an additional pair of 20mm cannons. Surrendered by an unknown unit at Vaerlose, Denmark at wars end, following evaluation the aircraft was tagged for preservation in 1946. During restoration in 1960, paint stripping revealed the code 3U+CC of 2 Staffel, 1/ZG26 ( Zerstorer Geschwader 26 ) which had served in the Balkans and Italy..... Of 1,160 aircraft built only one other example is known to exist at the National Air & Space Museum, Paul E Garber facility, USA..( stored awaiting restoration ).

Is it just me or does it look slightly ungainly? I'm not an aviation expert so it could just be my less than stellar vision. Excellent photo, BTW.

I've also read these and the 210 before were not well liked and the Luftwaffe were forced to slog on with the then seriously outdated BF110. A cracking find mate :-)

Looks pretty purposeful and blunt to me. Excellent Neil, I have not seen one of these before .... either.

Hmmm... looks and sounds familiar. Is this the one with the almost round nose which (I think) appeared as an Airfix model way back in the 1960s? Nice job photographing it in such a small space. I wonder what lens setting you've used. The wide angle distortion is scarcely noticeable. Keep up the good work! :-)
