Description

The other day the”Doc”bought a new 3TB harddisk to clone the 2TB to a bigger one. After doing the technical work to install, connecting the cables, and cleaning the inside of the Quad-Core equipment,i fired up Acronis 2014 to clone. And as soon as the cloning application started, the “fecal matter” began to hit the airmoving device”. 1-only 2 Tb from the new hd were allocated, 2- windows was unable to do a partition to boot, 3- acronis itself was unable to restore the old system backup.the”doc was trying it about a couple of hours, with all types of parameters without success. As the adrenaline was creeping up my spine, the wifey utebigsmile “suggested” to shut down the machine, and try the following day and I agreed, because this is my 2nd computer and not my main workstation, meaning, this job does not needs to be done at once (hard to comply for me,lol).Anyway I followed Ute's “advice”(Utes advice and suggestions are close to an order issued by “El Supremo” and you know how General Head reacts, when his orders are not executed at once hehehe),and I shut down the machine for the night. Now the following morning,at 04:30,cyberdoc wakes up fit and sound and turns things upside down, copying partition Y to D,C to ex Y and so on,get it??lol, needs talent-brains to run through that jungle of partitions. In short terms,i decided to use the new harddisk as data disk, because the Bios and the ASUS-Mobo P5QL-E dont support bootable disks that extend 2 terrabyte. Now I have to shift some partitions with data, make the Ex partition Y bootable, and try to copy the backup to it,if I am lucky that works out well, if not new windows 7 install and then I go from there, time consuming but worth the time. On the Ex Y disk is my daz 4 installation with all the genesis files,i copied that already to the new partition.worked out fine,so far no data loss,we have now 06:20AM,working already close to 2 hours with 2 cups of coffee and a couple of fags (sadly I know but I need it now). “Burp, fart” sorry the coffee and the excitement-lol,omg crap, that was a fine fart....opening window......! Ok back in the pc-saddle,seeing what the odd Mofo is giving me. 10 minutes to go and see how the cloning of C and D worked out.(another coffee and fag). Craaaaaap,Mofo tells me thast cloning of C and D failed, now it will get tricky,i decide to keep my old 2TB as 4th harddisk, need to do some cabling,be back,....! But knowing the doc...he anticipated this and he downloaded a couple of harddisk tools while writing this report.i will try with GPARTED and eventually with ULTIMATE BOOT,see how far this brings me. This is getting a long story I guess I have to “partition”the report lol.

reminds me of Adding a second SCSI harddrive to an Amiga 2000 with a video toaster card....seemed simple enough on the outset... six hours later... I was ready to give up... all so I ould have an extra 500mb of storage (which you'll recall was an obscene amount in those days...)

Farting is a quite normal function - but you didn't have to rattle the putty from the window frames ... I use Carbon Copy Cloner to clone to a new drive - never any problems like these you've had! But in the end? Will go to next image of the cloning ...

Windows 7 can only recognize up to two terrabytes. I had that happen with my PC. A whole terrabyte was wasted.

Many of us who build systems and upgrade them have had these sorts of issues. It is maddening as hell for sure. Great if you like doing this sort of thing, but the older I get ...... Either way, I have junked all mu old "spin" drives now and solely use SSDs (current max capacity 1TB). I have to say they make many an old system "whoosh" a little faster and they're great, no wait ......

It really sounds like quite an adventure, Rene, and a frustrating one at that..... I commented on your second post first, after reading through both of them, and I have to say, I really admire how you've maintained a sense of humor through all this! You are THE MAN! LOL Very cool collage, and what a story, Doc!

Always good to have a contingency plan Rene! They don't teach you that at College! lol I am stealing Cathy's 2TB drive, because she DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS THERE! lol My logic is, that because I do all the backup and maintenance, then it is I who should have extra capacity to hold her stuff as a backup. The 2TB External drives are as yet, unused until I get her files in some sort of order. There must be TONS of duplicates which she hasn't discovered yet. My Runtime has been under continuous maintenance for over two years! You're almost through Rene! You can sit back with a mug full of your favourite beverage at that point!
