Description

While out hunting for the bear and cougar that were making life 'interesting' for home owners, I came across this tree with the metal tag attached: From the USDA Forest Service is the following: 'A bearing tree contains vertical scribing along its base that is unique to each property corner the tree witnesses,' said Kearney. If a bearing tree is witnessing a property corner for the Forest boundary, the tree will also have a small yellow sign attached to the tree. Kearney said that each property corner throughout the Black Hills can have between two and four bearing trees. Thank you for all your kind comments and faves Have a great Sunday

Wonderful shot of this marked tree Mike. Thanks for sharing the wonderful information. Yikes--We have had bears rooting around garbage cans in town, but thankfully no cougars.

So while you were out looking for a bear - you found a bearing tree - so close Mike! Who knew that there were such things!

Cool capture Mike. Like Glenda said, we have had a few bears wander into town this year, but all were relocated without any one including the Bears getting hurt.

I think it's a disgrace they're allowed to nail stuff into the tree! Especially when Richard reckons there's markers on the ground. Ah well, I'm only jealous! lol Rest well Sir!

Wow Mike, you did great to spot this tag in the forest. I had no idea that the rules and regulations from the USDA Forest Service were so restrictive.
