This is so much better than a candid; there's something very polished and intimate about the whole mood, the light, the surfaces; it just sings! Well done, Mark!

A coffee colored shot of a coffee house crowd - what could be more appropriate?

Terrific high key effects in this candid shot (sorry, Denise) of the college age, coffee house crowd, taking a break before again entering the premises for another round of hippy poets on stage, regaling them with their ad lib prose. A zoom really reveals the high contrast and texture of the image, Mark. And, at the risk of plagiarism, I've decided to emulate you in the area of high contrast light and shadow, where appropriate. Finally, what is with the dude at the left center with those sprayed-on pants? He may attract a lot of wanton customers with that.

Mark, first of all allow me to say what a marvelous capture this one is. The lighting was the first thing that caught my eye, as well as the clarity of the image despite the obvious amount of crowd movement going on here. Now getting down to the fun stuff and sifting through the details let me just say this one is a real gem. Of course one has to enjoy the young lady in the back who appears a bit wary of you're intrusion. lol Obviously this groups conversation isn't too important as she appears to be carrying on talking while keeping an eye on you. Her two friends are totally distracted as one has all of his attention focused on what I'm assuming is his phone and the other seems to be looking past her in what may be a quick assessment of the crowd going into the facility their thinking about entering. The gentleman to the far right in the photo also appears to be fooling around with some sort of device which brings me to another inescapable conclusion. This photo you tried to shrug off as merely (Just A People Shot) is in reality a microcosm of our modern society and what I consider one of the sad realities. So many people we come in contact with today remain strangers to us because their attention is on what ever device they have that day. Sadly this applies to families out dining who literally have little to say to each other while dining as they wait for that response to their text, or what ever. There are two instances to the contrary depicted in this photo that give me a bit of hope starting with the couple to the right, they obviously have their priorities straight and are only concerned about interacting with each other. Just look at how close they are as they prepare to enter the establishment, and it's not because of being crowded. Obviously they have a strong bond and I'll bet anything when they are dining out the phones are on silent. The other example which is my personal favorite is the couple to the left and in the back who are hugging in what is an obvious joyful greeting. You can see just enough of her face to notice that big smile and her eyes literally glowing. I know I'm reading way too much into what you deemed a simple capture, but that is what you get when my comments come at the end of a long day ;)

My favourite shots, real eye-candy - of people doing ... what seems to be, doing nothing ! ... until you zoom ... ah, and oh, to be young ... (apart from what everybody else already mentioned here before me ;)) - how about that neon light advertising in the window ? - SHIRTS, WASH & FOLD ... (methinks?) almost organic in sepia, love it ! I like coming back after I've commented to see what else people have said about pictures like this. Imagine my surprise when my comment from last night wasn't here! I've been having trouble with my Internet, apparently more than I thought, so now I'm commenting from my phone! I remember I talked about all those wonderful verticals contained in the architecture in the background. The way the people are highlighted by those verticals, and that they could be anywhere, it provides such strength of composition. Aside from all that, I'm with Andrea. That is one fine little butt!
