Description

“She will Artemis.” From atop the shrine the two women looked back at the harbor. A mish mosh of different types of ships had crowded the dock area and had beached in other areas. They could see squads of the Lost Tribe, identified by their open faced and plumed helmets, advancing up the hill to the ridge. The air cavalry had arrived and was taking out the mortar and missile launchers, but not fast enough. Missiles continued to bombard the city and the mortars had dispersed and nearly decimated Pherenike's archers. The destruction in the city from the missiles quickly mounted and the rubble and fires had cut off the rest of the Amazon army. They'd have to go around or put out the fires and clear a path. Either way it would greatly slow them down. Already Antiope had managed to cut Pherenike's troops in half. Hippolyta and Artemis watched as flaming barrels and exploding balls rolled into Antiope's squads that bore automatic weapons, but it did not stop the advance and soon Pherenike had to organize a retreat as Antiope's forces gained the ridge. A few more missiles flew, one not far from where her and Artemis stood. That is when she saw her sister atop the ridge. She could see the blood stains from here, black in the red lighting from the fires. Her sister saw her too. At that moment, for less than a moment, it seemed like a silence fell on the scene. It was brief, but Hippolyta and Artemis both felt a freezing cold and then all the noise of battle returned in a rush. “What just happened?” Artemis said. “I'm not sure, but I know now, that it's time Artemis.” Hippolyta said. “Let's put an end to this.” Artemis agreed. The two moved down off the temple and joined Pherenike's army as it re-engaged the enemy. Swords rose and fell. Spears pierced and stabbed. Cries could be heard from all sides as foe and friend, alike, fell. Blood sprayed and made things slick as hand to hand combat ensued. At this point Hippolyta had a single minded goal of facing her sister. They have not spoken directly to one another in over twenty five hundred years. She and Artemis made their way towards Antiope and her squad, trying more to wound than slay the enemy, they saw Antiope had the same idea and was making their way towards them, but she was not as merciful. Suddenly a messenger in unusual clothing showed up at Antiope's side speaking and gesturing to her. After a few moments Antiope retreated to the rear and took two squads with her. Hippolyta was perplexed, then figured this must have something to do with her daughter, or Dr. Cyber, Scorn or whatever she called herself. As she looked on at her retreating foe a strange thing happened. One of the air cavalry fell from the sky, but was covered with things covered in feathers and claws. Harpies! Hippolyta was shocked. Then shouts and screams from the right flank began and when Artemis and Hippolyta looked that way, they saw many sword wielding skeletons, blood zombies and flying harpies moving in on their army. They had to fight two fronts now and one front was monsters and undead. Hippolyta now knew what the cold silence was. Doom's Doorway has been opened. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you enjoy and come back Friday for more.

As I said before - one hell of a ride! To say this is epic would be the understatement of the year... The artwork and writing are so skillfully put together, Art! This should be published... Have you considered submitting this to Marvel? This is indeed a masterwork - the last time I read something this thrilling was LOTR. I'm sitting here mulling over the possibilities of what comes next.... I see a couple possible outcomes, and I think I have somewhat of an idea of what direction the main battle will take - but I'll keep my lips sealed and see if I'm anywhere close, or if you have another surprise awaiting us. Absolutely outstanding work on this whole series, bro!
