Description

Just an ink drawing in my Moleskine, while watching TV politics. I usually make about 4 portraits in the hour the show takes. They dont look like anybody particulary. Have a great evening/day Thank you so much for your kind comments to my prev post :-)

I'll have to show you the drawings of Saul Steinberg: He does portraits like this, one after the other. Like yours, they're all very character-ful, very strong personalities, and made with the same strong lines and cross hatch you're using here. (And which you use in other of your "tv political show" portraits. I'm sure the politicians are thrilled, btw, that your sole response to their speeches is portraits! "Well we sure reached HER!" they're thinking. Come to America, we need you when our Congress speaks...) Two very strong characters here, and I love the strong cross hatch, and how you know where to use it, and where to let it go. The torsos are defined with the fewest strokes possible---just what's needed to make a "body" for us. And pretty intense expressions too. (Were they pontificating, on TV? They look like they're involved in some political debate.) Delightful work, Helle, these portraits get the heart of a person right away. Right off the bat. That's the essence of 'fast' portraits. (Kind of like croquis in art class---quick capsulization of the human form.) More please!

First class work, like the freeform nature of these and the crosshatching too.

Wow Helle, I really am impressed with these portraits you created. Amazing you were able to produce these in an hour, and with the added distraction of the tv.

These are wonderful! I'm reminded of the drawings that are done professionally for our Supreme Court. They don't allow cameras in the courtroom, so artists sit around drawing the action. If you ever want to go back to work, you could come over here and be bored out of your mind and draw the same people over and over again! LOL!
