Description

For those that have missed out on meeting a tame skunk, let me tell you that they are wonderful. Skunks are the only wild animal in our country that, when raised in captivity, will not revert to the wild. These little guys make such good pets that some states breed them and sell them as pets. This is not allowed in all states. While I do not condone breeding of many animals as pets, I am glad that skunks have been discovered. They are very clean, litter box train, love their people and eat all bugs that dare to invade their house. Skunks love to play and involve themselves in what ever you are doing. They have such big personalities that you can't help but love them. They are also very loyal to their people and will charge and attack any one that they believe to be a threat to you. This beautiful guy is in the educational program at the place I took Whiskers to. He has a great place there and gets to meet many people. Skunks are not completely nocturnal and will be up during the day quite often if they live with you. They will seek you out just to play. Yes, the pet skunks have the sent glands removed. This leaves them with just that sweet musk odor that is not at all unpleasant.

Aw! Thanks Bev. Just what I needed. These fellows ARE very nice. I've seen some very nice videos on YouTube. But the best experience was that my brother had as a child. On the way home from school, he passed a wooded area. Often a skunk would come out and walk him to our apartment building's entrance. The skunk would stay a while, then saunter back to the wooded area. One day mother wanted to see the "cute kitty cat" and looked down from our balcony just above the entrance to the building. She was horrified and warned my brother about being "skunked". His reply was "Oh, no. He's a nice skunk. He's my friend." He never had a problem with that little fellow. This little fellow is so cute and calm. Sheesh. Wonder if there are skunks in Sweden. But there are probably laws against having contact with them (as there are for most animals considered wild). Very nice photo - and you could get up close with that frightening big eye (the camera lens). I'm still unhappy after Blackies flight to rattie heaven. Keep up the good work! :-)
