Description
For those that saw my post "Bewildered", I have been asked by many to let you know how he did. As you may have guessed from this post, the decision to let him go was made yesterday. We called him Nascha, a native American name for owl.
We were able to determine that he was indeed blind with no hope of sight ever. When an owl has lost it's sight, it will sit very still when it hears any noise. The owl will not move until it is touched. It will then react in complete terror and fight for it's life. It has no idea what has it, just that something is most likely trying to kill it. This is no life.
As you can see, I took great liberties with the picture. I cleaned the blood from his face and gave him both eyes as he should have had. I guess this would be a picture of his spirit, the strength and dignity he had before he was injured. I believe that animals too, have a spirit. I believe that they go to a much better place to have the life they were to have.
It is hard some days to do these things, no matter that it is "the right thing to do". I still hurt for them and wish there was a way to fix them. I can't, so this time,
I honor Nascha. Go in peace my friend.

I saw the title and my heart started breaking, even before I saw the picture and read your narrative. Fly free Nascha over fields of wonderful game food and warm shelters thank you for letting us know - I kinda guessed that he wasn't going to make it - this Spirit Photo is a perfect tribute to him.

As soon as I saw the pic I thought, "Please don't say he has died" Such a shame but he will have had superb care & you made the right decision for him. xx

Nice work on the image, Bev. A fitting memorial to him. Thanks for educating us about the owl's plight when blind. How many of us would react in the same way if we were blind and someone were to sneak up on us? We'd fight from fear, too. It's sad to have to put down any living creature, but I suspected this would be the final outcome, considering his injuries. Rest in peace, Nascha! :-(
