Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Looks like a battlefield after the battle. The leaves lost. Outstanding light on the main subject.

Man, you know when I see your pics as they're posted, I'll get very involved, and then I think I've commented. But I haven't. So when I come to shots like this, I'm stunned to see that I never wrote a word. The low closeup DOES make it look like a battlefield after the battle (where the leaves lost) (Mark). It has an aftermath feel. But then, fallen leaves are an aftermath. (Autumn may come from a pre-Latin root meaning "dried up, withered," so it does mean aftermath.) (Fall also implies aftermath, since it means 'fall of the leaf'...) Really, it brings home the idea that when we get close-up, the simplest things of our day can take on gigantic proportions. This feels catastrophic. I love the flare at top partly washing out the leaves. And the big red one near the front, as a kind of mascot. Love your eye. Terrific mess-of-a-shot. A big late fall sit-in.
