Description
A second attempt with Oil Pastel Crayons, which never will be my fav medium. I gave them a chance, but I am not crazy about them, said gently :)
Have a wonderful weekend. I actually saw with my own eyes a sunburst today and I saw something that actually could look like a sun. :-P We havent seen the sun almost all this month.

This is very nice! I suggest you try the oil pastels on newsprint - they go on very smoothly and cover better. (You can buy newsprint in pads at any art supplies store.)

This is supposed to be fun, so if you don't like oil pastels, I think you shouldn't use them! :) However, everything is worth a try, so it was time well spent. This is beautiful, btw, and doesn't reflect at all on your less-than-ecstatic experience with the medium. :P

I respectfully don't agree with tara and andrea---I understand that it can be maddening to use mediums we don't like; but I also know that when we do, we can stretch and develop new vistas in the mediums that we do like. And sometimes we're called to a medium we don't like precisely because it 'will' open new doors in the mediums were good at---kind of like doing stretches so you can play a sport better---no one likes stretches, but they get you in tune with muscles you didn't know you had. In any case, considering the smeary nature of oil pastels, you did a very bursting, vital drawing, with stand out reds and pinks, and contrasting greens, and a big beautiful deep black vase (with a fine bottom, too). And the arrangement is a kind of threesome of shapes and textures. The medium is tough, it's smeary and brings out a lot of grain in the paper; but you tackled it and made a very vital piece with it. Sometimes we just need to be vital in a difficult medium; it satisfies something we crave at that moment; and oil pastels, like other smeary mediums, just does that, as few mediums do. We walk away a bit frustrated, but we got something out we needed to tackle. All your oil pastel pieces have a big vitality to them; you'll just do other mediums a lot more often, lol. (Have you ever tried applying oil pastels with utmost softness---ie, barely letting them touch the paper? you can get some very ethereal effects that way, and avoid the smear and heaviness that come with the medium...)
