Description
Yesterday, 11/22/14, I again ventured out to the local !-5 freeway widening area, where I snapped tons upon tons of shots, taking advantage of the very early morning long shadow effects, created not only by the heavy equipment tracks, but also the mechanical equipment itself, plus the walls, rods, debris, K-rails, and ancillary stuff lying around. As usual, I maneuvered thru the site most carefully, not only to avoid the many hazards, but also to prevent kicking up the very fine talcum powdery soil created by the weight of the monster equipment. Despite the caution, my shoes got dirty in no time. Even so, no one was around to challenge me, so I was like a kid in a candy store, shooting away in a mad frenzy at everything, until my battery was exhausted, and my shutter finger numb.
Arrivederci.

Great job on another cool capture, Harry.

Wow, what a fascinating set of tire tracks going diagonally up the field, what a great find! You couldn't do this kind of excellent abstract intentionally, it wouldn't have the same careless perfection. Beautifully captured, Harry!

Fantastic shot of these fascinating man-made patterns in the dirt. Your use of high contrast works brilliantly here - it really brings out the shadows & the depth of the tracks so well. Well seen & creatively captured...

Ditto Claude (photosynthesis), it's a fantastic shot for all the reasons he mentions; and also Denise points out that this is a true capture, because if someone had created this abstract (like making sculpture out of the soil and sand), it wouldn't have the power it has, having been carved out by chance and machines. But your eye was tuned to the tee, and your postwork, ditto, in this piece. Beautiful textures as a result of your high key, mixed with those strong shadows---this is almost like white powder or ash, even though it's neither. And your choice of criss-cross, with that big double tire path in the center cutting right into the horizontals, makes a terrific meeting of two worlds. And the top---I love what you did with that stuff---it's like an abstract of powder and ice---and the topmost layer is like ice against a black background---as if it were mountains seen from the air. A wonderful shot, Harry, scintillating from top to bottom.
