Description

Captured 11/21/14, very early in the am, right outside my condominium complex. It wasn't as cold as it looks. Just some morning dew. Sayonara.

What postwork? This is right out of the camera, unenhanced and unrefined in any way.

I was going to say it looked very chilly, but I guess it was just damp; sometimes that's worse than frost, at least you can scrape frost off, but the dew can be harder to remove when it's humid out. I like the bright early sunlight backlighting these wet cars, Harry. Well captured!

Yes it does look chilly, but I know you don't get too many freezing days in LA, esp in November. But the way you caught these, they look like you just took them out of the freezer, or else they've been sprinkled with powdered sugar. The high key light is all yours, it's in strong contrast with the dark lines of the cars and their shadows. And again you have a sun which blasts out a small section of your shot, but which isn't wholly visible. We feel it by its absence. (And that's quite an absence. ) I really like how you do that with the sun, I've got to try it: It bleaches whole swaths of the street and makes the cars glow. And in the background, two people walking, giving us a clue that this isn't winter, as they're definitely not dressed for it. Very strong early-day urban shot, with a very strong 'life' in those cars, like a bunch of animals being still. This is yet more fine early morning shooting from you, with very contrasted light and shadow. Fine work again...And btw, to a few of your comments (which I deeply appreciate): Please keep in mind that my neighborhood is by no means typical of Chicago: I live in a very expensive neighborhood! (Though I don't live in an expensive building, by any means.) Most of Chicago isn't like that neighborhood, believe me---it's one of the richest neighborhoods in America. In monetary value, it's akin to Rodeo Drive or places like that. I was lucky to find affordable housing right next to it---people move right next to it, because it's off Downtown, so it's ultra, ultra convenient.) Anyway, much of Chicago is like your neighborhood, not like mine. And also, when I was writing about "giving thanks" I really meant giving thanks in our hearts. I too have serious arguments with many parts of religion. Well, I'm past an hour now, so I'll move on; but I'll be back this week for more. Hope you're getting cooler weather at last. (We had a blizzard last week. A blizzard! You want some cold---I'll stick it in a big box, and you can HAVE it---free shipping! Is that a deal? What, for cyber-monday? Is that what they call it? You can have a complete midwestern blizzard, no charge, and free shipping! In November! Man it was blowing like all hell---how in the world do millions of people live here???)
