Thanks for showing us what this looks like in context, as well as the close in shot. It's great to see it 'in person," so to speak. Beautiful piece! Very royal and fancy with the purple and gold.

I'm almost a month late, and I can't believe I didn't comment on some of these letter pieces you did! One of the things that struck me about this when you posted it was that it's physical art---something we digital people just forget about too often. It's such another realm, when it's physical. And of course, it's truly "illuminated" because it uses gold foil of some sort. (It's not gold 'leaf', I assume, so it's probably some kind of gold-colored foil.) The gold and silver was what gave illuminated manuscripts their "illumination". (And of course, precious metals were associated with divinity. They shined like the divine...) But Helle, you've made this big "sea" of royal colors---gold and purple---around your N; and your N is a straight affair, which contrasts the opulent surroundings. And you've striped it vertically, which is in harmony with the verticals of the letter. (It would be less harmonious with, say, Q or S.) I love it. It's bold, and powerful, and in your face. And, with Tara, I love the shot of it in the book---not a small point: These illuminated manuscripts were books, originally, painted on sheep or calfskin if I recall. (The latter---calfskin---being the original "vellum," a word related to the English "veal".) So it belongs in a book. And do you have other letter pieces in that photo album? This is an example of your creativity---using whatever you have, to make art. It's a beautiful N, and, with Andrea, you are doing physical art so much, in this series, which really leaves me way behind. It has your "hand" all over it, and that's precious. Wonderful royal treatment. The N's of the world thank you... (I wrote an interview with N---I called it "N: The Interview," and I never posted it. I felt it was time to do something raunchy with letters rather than always treat them with respect. N, in my interview, was a raunchy, womanizing idiot, who even turns off the interviewer. He slept with every letter of the alphabet, plus several punctuation marks---I couldn't bring myself to post it! But with this piece---your N---it's fine that I didn't, because you elevated it to a beautiful illuminated leaf---as in book leaf. And it's terrific, Helle.)
