Description

I've been admiring the view of this hillside for a long time & have been thinking about photographing it as a simple diagonal composition - but it's been while soaking comfortably in my hot tub in the mornings. I don't bring my camera out to the hot tub, plus the view from there is partially obscured by tree branches. A couple of mornings ago, I finally decided to do it. I got my camera, put on my mud shoes, walked down the slippery moss-covered stone steps to the field below my house & took a few shots, of which I thought this was the best. Compared to the death-defying lengths that some photographers go to in order to capture a scene, this was pretty tame, wimpy stuff, but it seemed like a big effort to a lazy person prone to procrastinating like myself - & it was cold out there! Please zoom for much better detail.

I applaud your decisiveness in finally getting the shot; it's well worth the effort! What a beautiful vision of layered colours and very pleasingly composed! Well done!

Composition and color are superb. I'm glad you braved the wilds to get this shot! :) As far as I know, the only death-defying thing I did in aid of taking a picture was stand in front of an avalanche chute. I was only there for a minute. Fortunately it was the right minute, and the thing didn't come down on me! :P

It's a big cradle in there, almost a cauldron with smoke rising behind the wonderfully clear fore and midground, with that big carpet of red trees closer to the front. The background looks almost like a chinese landscape painted on silk; it has that misty dreamy feeling (where the mists are often used as a symbol of the Tao). Quite vivid and lush, like a big plush carpet. Quite beautiful.

You should have told us you assailed down a 300foot cliff trekked for miles in mosquito infested swamp and forded great rivers to get this beautiful shot.

'Diagonal Composition' was the exact phrase that I was looking for to comment on your November 23rd Teton posting "bursting with yellow". It has been driving me crazy!!!!! Beautiful fall colors and fog covering the trees!
