Description

Mackay Mansion Virginia City, Nevada I was fascinated by the flowers painted on the toilet bowl, both inside and out. This is a three-shot vertical pano, btw. I couldn't get far enough away to show the whole thing and get all the detail I wanted. The things you see on RR, huh? LOL! Zoom isn't any bigger, but I think the quality is a bit better. .......... We left Washington in the motorhome in September, 2013, and got back in May, 2014. The photographs I took on that trip number in the thousands. A lot of them are crap ... road shots and other things for our own reference ... and as we went along, I just pulled a few to show you. My plan for the winter is to go back through those images and post the ones I like. So even if it looks like we're doing another road trip this year, we're not! We're snug in our little winter home, watching a lot of basketball and football, hanging out with friends, and swimming in the pool. :)

Okay, now that is interesting. And the detail of it, especially on the inside. I wonder if the artist thought of this or if the artist showed up for a job and they are like... yea, we want you to paint our tolit.

Well, Marcel Duchamp took an ordinary urinal, without any designs painted on it at all, & turned it into an artwork by merely placing it in a gallery & calling it art. So why not paint intricate artistic designs on a toilet? Looking forward to seeing more photos from your trip, Tara (the ones that aren't crap, which I'm guessing are a pretty damn large number of them)...

Thanks for the description. I'd hate to tell you what it looked like at first glance, especially with these old eyes. A very fancy crapper. I assume it was painted before it was used.

When we re-modeled our bathroom, I saw a floral painted toilet, it was so pretty and I wanted it.... but, darn, that sucker was over a $1000.... it stayed in the catalog, and I got a regular toilet... lol. Great shot here :)

Yes, amazing detail on a toilet...it would make using the bathroom a pretty high-class affair. As a shot, I wish it were bigger (I understand you were capturing the floral detail, no problem), because the intense light in what I assume is a window, next to the deep shadow around the raised toilet seat and the wall, and the toilet box above, and the shadow cast by the bowl itself, all make a wonderful intense contrast. And you give us more of that deep rich-red and red-brown. Also, the light on the rim of the toilet is so ivory-like and pure. And the box atop is washed over by shadow, but you have your signature glowing reds in it, enough to make it seem like it's glowing. Beautiful work, and yes, the floral detail on the bowl is most unusual, and it's stunning to see. And I'm happy you'll be sifting through your shots, it's a very sweet thought of what's to come...More intimate inside shooting again, Tara.

I wonder if it was painted to act as a screen for ... stuff. Well, you know. Anyway, I wonder how it holds up to cleaning? Personally I'd be afraid to use it! Maybe I'd put flowers in it or something...

Well, I guess that's one way to guarantee that someone, sometime will take a dump on your art..... :-P That's the most fascinating WC I've seen in quite a while! What a great find, and a lovely atmospheric shot of it, Tara! The things you see on Rendo........ LOL! Swimming pool? Arrrrrrrrrggggg...... LOL

Oh my, this is really something special, Tara. And I'm glad you choose this title, then from the thumb I got other idea's in my mind. So, did I once saw someone, who lost in his 'great errand' flowers in his toilet: "no."...or...??? Have fun in your pool, Tara and Bill, I would love to join you!!!
