probably I was mistaken earlier, I now think this is more likely the European Hornet.. I'm probably going to post lots of pics of this guy, you might get bored of him.

You may already know, but I read that the small eyes are called Ocelli and are essentially horizon detectors.

Very good macro - even the hairs on its head are clearly visible. Yes, more photos please. I've never seen such a creature so close up - fascinating. I wonder what they feel and think. After all, they have eyes and a nervous system. Amazing how complex such a little creature is! Keep up the good work! :-)
