Description

One of several of these sawed off stumps, captured 6/21/14, very early morning, about half a mile from my academic abode. I believe these trees had been around for eons, and being in an unsightly and desolate area, were not worth maintaining or saving. Have a nice day today and a Happy New Year tomorrow. Adieu.

Awww, nothing sadder than a tree stump; if the area is anything like around here, it will soon host a huge complex of apartments, condos, or massive huge single-family homes. Superb capture of this ex-palm tree, Harry!

I smiled when denise called this an "ex-palm tree". It is; but it reminds me of John Cleese in Monty Python, screaming, "This---is a late parrot!" or, "this is an ex-parrot!" Anyway, it's ironic that, in removing the tree for being 'unsightly', they left an equally unsightly stump. Unsightly for a tree, but wonderful for an artist. The sheaths on the bark have become detached last-gasps, they're peeling off like blades on a rotor-saw of some kind. Or like someone who's coming apart at the seams. And all that soil and debris mingling with the remains, and the top with a few colonies on it---rocks, maybe; mold, little tufts of hair---and a pretty desolate background: You got a lot of 'abandonment' in a single shot. A terrific find and pic, kudos for finding these and then working hard to make them sing. A whole universe a few blocks from your home... Harry---I realize I haven't fav'd anything today! Sorry! It wasn't choice, just oversight. I'm trying so hard to catch up, I completely forgot about faving. Well, you know your whole gallery is a fav, so keep that in mind. I just get wound up in commenting. These are all fav-able uploads.
