Description

Buzzing people, animals, and buildings in your wonderful flying machine ranks in the company of those other trivial and questionable "enjoyments" such as throwing rocks at cars, water balloons out the second story window, and having pizza delivered to the unsuspecting neighbor down the street. I have no working theories about the practice, but it is worth pondering Mark Twain's quote on the heart of the matter, "Of all the animals, man is the only one that is cruel. He is the only one that inflicts pain for the pleasure of doing it." Go figure. (Alas, been there, done that.) The real purpose of doing this little piece was to use Lucien-Lilippe's excellent Nieuport 17. You all know how I love these "low and slow" WW 1 planes. I converted his Bryce model and have been playing with the textures, and this just evolved from a simple fly-by. Most of us know the Nieuport as one of more famous and recognizable aircraft of the Great War. Manufactured in France, copied and manufactured in limited numbers by the Germans, and flown by nearly all the protagonists of the conflict the Nieuport 17 gained fame by being outstandingly maneuverable with a quick climb rate. Unfortunately, the "wing and half design" (double spar top wing and a under-designed single spar bottom wing) had a tendency to disintegrate during a serious dive. Not even the Germans with all their tinkering were able to fix this major flaw. Still, you use the tool at hand the best you can, and they all did. Along with the British Airco D.2 the 17's were able to stem the "Fokker scourge" in 1916, but were outclassed by mid 1917 and subsequently replaced in the French squadrons by the Spad. Newer versions were later fielded with the 28 adopting the hardier double spar in both wings, with many being shipped to the USA after the war. Nieuport 17: Most excellent Bryce model was free but not available at this time by Lucien_Lilippe. I converted it and did some textures down in the shed, and plan to do some more. Thank you again for sharing this one, Lucien. Horses: Beautiful horse model by adh3d available here on Rendo. Pilot: M3 with some thrift store gear. C4d6CE+XL, Poser 7, Vue6Infinite, PS Cs3

Reprehensible in reality....but sure looks cool in 'virtuality', and adh's horse is a sturdy breed that I'm sure enjoys such fun. Great image Bill... 10/10
