Description
Two WW 2 fighters to be reckoned with. The Nakajima Ki-43 Hayabusa, "Peregrine Falcon" to the Japanese, and "Oscar" to the Allies, was know as the "Army Zero" due to a profile similar to the IJN's A6M. Although the Zero is the Imperial Japanese Navy's most famous and recognizable fighter, the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force's Ki-43 surprisingly downed more allied aircraft than any other Japanese fighter. Most of the Army Air Force's aces earned their kills flying that aircraft! A lightweight and extremely maneuverable and nimble aircraft, it was difficult to target and shoot down. That characteristic was largely achieved by a lack of armor, and with no self sealing fuel tanks, it broke apart and burned easily when hit.
Then there is the F4U Corsair, arguably one of the best fighter/bombers of the war. (Great discussion on that at Classicfighters.org, see F4U.), and some accounts reckon that the Japanese considered it the most formidable Allied fighter of the war. It was designed as a carrier based aircraft, but because of its design was difficult to land, and when fully loaded (an impressive characteristic!) it definitely needed the longer run of a land strip to get safely airborne. Because of the carrier issues, the Corsair was mainly used by the USMC on land bases. With an overall kill ratio of 11:1, there is little to argue against the F4's success.
The F4U has always been one of my favorite aircraft. For some reason that long "hose nose" and those inverted gull wings, and the high visibility of the later canopy definitely spark my imagination. Both are great looking planes!

Great render.

Super, very highly detailed Render mate.. Top job as always.. Should be noted (may have been though, maybe not), that the Royal Navy flew F4U's off Carriers before the Marines or USN.. But that very small point aside, great info as always.. Rob

Great to see the Oscar having a go, though I don't like its chances against a Corsair going flat-out. "Crossing" the planes like that is a good POV solution and pleasing to the eye.
