Description
After two days of gruesome killings and a terrible blow against freedom of speech and expression, my country is now mourning the loss of nearly twenty people, among whom almost all of the cartoonists of the Charlie Hebdo weekly magazine, civilians, policemen and another dozen of injured people now in hospital.
Too much innocent blood has been shed, in order to threaten and eventually assassinate those who thought that a pencil could open the people's minds to what is best or worst in our world.
This image is dedicated to those shot dead like abattoir animals, and also to the hundreds of thousands of people worldwide who've taken to the streets to show support to the victims, in France, but also in the USA, in Canada, Brasil, Europe, Australia, Russia, Ukraine, Hong Kong, ...everywhere. In addition, I am, like most of my compatriots, very much moved by the use of the French language, beyond our national borders, as a token of international sympathy and support, in the name of liberty, democracy and freedom of expression.

Preciosa e comovente dedicatória meu amigo é muito triste o ocorrido a perda das vidas de todas essas pessoas e todos os feridos é lamentável que existem pessoas tão más no mundo,todas as pessoas devem ter liberdade de expressão. Une très belle dédicace à ceux qui sont morts parce que l'obscurantisme et l'intolérance ne s'accomode pas de la liberté de penser, le lire, d'écrire, de dessiner.... Comme toi, je pense qu'il faut remercier ceux qui à travers le monde ont manifesté leur émotion et leur soutien aux victimes. Je crois qu'on peut aussi avoir une pensée pour ceux qui dans le monde, quelquefois jour après jour, subissent ces obscurantisme sanguinaires.

A very fitting tribute. We are all shocked by what happened there. I fear that the terror is still going on, these fanatics who think they have to kill in the name of God, have announced further terrorist attacks. This is all very disturbing.

I agree fully with your thoughts, Jean-Luc! Your image is a great tribute to all that fought and fight for liberty, democracy and freedom of expression in the past and still in our 21th century !! Too much innocent blood has been and still continue being shed ! It is all so sad ! I am very sorry...

Bravo pour ton hommage à ces artistes, ces personnes, ces victimes qui sont dotées au moins d'un esprit critique ... pas comme ces terroristes qui ont subi un lavage de cerveau. Ce qui se passe dans nos démocraties est grave mais le fait que tout le monde s'indigne dans le monde entier me laisse espérer en des jours meilleurs. Et comme je l'ai fait comprendre à mes élèves : Pour la liberté, tous à vos crayons !!!!!

My hat is off for the great work done by the French police. I hope it discourages further acts of terrorism. It reminds me of Sir Winston Churchill's quote - "we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender!" They have fired the first shot over and over again against innocent, unarmed people. It is time our governments see this is a war and clear out the enemy from amongst us, or we shall suffer more of the same. In this war, the pen is of greatest importance, for its proper use sways men's minds to put an end to this tyranny. My condoleances to those who have lost loved ones to these cowards.

Pas mal du tout ton image. Ceci dit, Charlie redémarre, mais ce sera pour combien de temps? Tellement de gens sont "Charlie" qui ne l'achetaient jamais, voire qui le "démolissaient" que je me pose des questions sur la pérennité de ce titre...dont j'étais un fidèle lecteur. Les antimilitaristes de ce journal ( Charb, Honoré, Wolinski, Oncle Bernard, Tignous, et surtout Cabu ) auraient apprécié, j'en suis sûr!

Well said, well said.... These are not religious men & women, they are violent, sick men & women, using religion as an excuse. My heart goes out to all the law abiding, God-loving Muslims who have to look at their feet as they walk along the street, fearing what others are thinking of them.

The image of a white dove in a clear blue sky evokes a feeling of serenity which belies the terrible incidents inspiring this image. While I treasure and appreciate the message of the image, I'm just not optimistic that humanity can ever leave behind such things as the brutal suppression of thought and of free speech by men of evil intent. It just seems so much a part of the human condition. The battle against evil is one which can never end...
