WOW! looks like foam. I am glad you dont go and take such shots anymore, as you would freeze stuck on the beach for the rest of the winter and not be found before the spring when you melt again. Looks absolutely fantastic and I love this shot.

Mark, first of all let me say that the detailing in this photo is incredible and I love the swirling patterns found throughout. What stands out most however is the way you timed the lighting for this photo to give it even more appeal.

A beautiful lumpy snow abstract. I love the swirly patterns & textures & the color tones you've given it. But, in the words of the late Frank Zappa, "Don't eat the yellow snow!"...

I agree with Mandi; looks like the white masses are coming from the depths and they seem organic creatures. I see two faces in the right and all together, they look like a group/family visiting the surface. You did a fabulous abstraction of your lake, Mark. The dark blue is awesome. I cannot tell if it is day or night...the contrast of light/darkness brings such mistery in this fabulous image. A beautiful image to be framed and placed on a wall. Thanks a lot for sharing your wonderful place:)

Now I've blown all my steam on your first upload and my nose is beginning to drip in harmony with the dripping ice...I do love these cold captures, Mark!

Partially refrozen ice cream? I'm trying to draw an analogy hereā€¦.it could be really frozen snow. It radiates spooky to some extent. In any event, stellar low angle lighting and various textural effects makes this one a masterpiece, Mark. And all this frigid beauty achieved with the aid of a two megapixel camera. This dispels the myth that a mechanic is no better than his tools.

Helle got me thinking ... I wonder how many photographers thaw out in the spring out on the jetty? Are there ice lumps out there that slowly become photographers as the weather warms up? I remember the day you got knocked over by a wave but still got the shot. There were other photographers out there that day, weren't there? It's sort of a Chip story. Oh wait ... I forgot to tell you how much I like the yellow and blue, and the ridges that show up so beautifully in the light.

Unique shot. The snow can be quite fascinating, and beautiful, especially if viewed from a nice warm car or house, while sipping a hot cappuchino, which is my preference on these bone-chilling days.

Hey! What a shot! I got so few of these this winter, but then this winter isn't over yet and I still have some ice shots to get and make...the weather warmed up and the gangway behind the apartment I now share with Corey does actually look like the stunt double to a Tarkovsky movie...it's all drippy, only it's too dark to photograph the remains of ice and constant, rhythmic drips. Now, as for the subject of this comment: WOW! I love the buttery, golden light sort of caressing the really caressable (though cold) globes of ice. It looks like boiling water was caught and frozen, mid boil, and what's not to like about that!? The colors are superb, and I love the complimentary gold/blue tones...Hey, and Tara just told a Chip-story! Honestly, there are times she'll say things that are some amazing plotlines. I love every part of this post.
