Leave a comment on this which is what I prefer, but I can not consider the three pictures that you posted separately. They are part of a unique feeling. They remind me of something vital but primitive atmospheres that bring me back to the concept of infinity.

Magnificent! The light, the feeling of vast open space, of cold, of reverence for your lake, make me want to don my ski suit and crunch along the lake shore... But it's over 20degC outside, and I'd soon be reduced to a pool of very unfrozen water. I really miss the northern winter when I see photographs like this!

Mark, not to put the first two photos today down but this one is my favorite in the series today. In fact in all honesty this is one of the coolest pics I've seen in quite some time. Trust me someone like yourself who is lucky enough to see a site like this on a daily basis probably can't understand how one could find it so captivating. Keep in mind throughout all my years of life I've never had the pleasure of seeing what happens to a beach area in winter until today. I'm setting here in awe, carefully studying all the details contained within this capture. Just to see the sandy region of the beach cracking like a desert blew me away, and leaves me curious as to how hard the sand becomes during this time. Of course I've not even spoken to what a truly epic capture this is, and what an ideal location you selected. The lighting, the reflections and shadows are all sublime and make for an unforgettable presentation.

This is a totally stunning capture. I wonder if it is still from the old Nikon. I cat believe it is. It such a fantastic view and reflections and the mood is worth standing there for in the freezing cold morning. I absolutely adore this shot. Thank you so much for shating it with us, dear Mark. It proves, that I was right. You are born to do this.

I have to go and make a coffee now I see this. WHAT a cold nightmare, although it is a stunner of a shot/ I like the alien life-forms in your number 2 shot best!

An amazing shot - truly extraordinary & beautiful. And it even has an amusement park in the distance. One thing I find interesting about this image is the difference between the zoomed & unzoomed view. The zoomed view reveals some interesting details & textures (in the water to the right of the sun's reflection & below the ferris wheel, for example, are some beautiful patterns) that are not apparent in the smaller view, but I find the overall look of the image in the unzoomed view to be more dramatic & visually powerful. Great shot either way & a fine example of why visual imagination is more important than having the latest whiz bang, high tech camera gear...

Yikes, where are my down jacket, uggs, lined leather gloves when I need em? The coldest weather I've ever been in was in Truckee, California a few years ago. It was 8 degrees and I thought some very special parts were gonna fall off then. Heaven only knows what would happen on YOUR lake!! I love this series; it really gives a sense of how COLD it is back there.

You have diamonds in the sand! And you made the sun fall down ! But i don't think that is because the beach is freezed:) i Think that it was your inner eye. This is the most superb capture, Mark! I have a deep feeling of the intimacy and mistery in this image, so rich in contained colors-.the golden reflexes are superb and the splashes of the waves make the image so alive. And when i look the light in the sky i 'feel' a path to the infinity and i agree with 'giulband'. Its a powerful atmosphere and a dawn in its blessed quietude.

I really didn't understand most of the comments above, until I zoomed the image. Voila! All is revealed... great light, reflections & detail....

Another view from the alien world; it's certainly no world I've visited, with all those diamonds on the shore of the lake! Lovely lovely lovely!!!

In contrast to photosynthesis, I find the zoom image far superior to the default, in that it reveals color, contrasts, definition, lighting, reflectivity and texture at their most eloquent, Mark, which was not to be observed in the small one, at least to my ancient eyes. And, not to rain on your parade, but the portrait could also be interpreted as a oil tanker spill during warmer weather. All in all, a remarkable photograph, achieved under numbing frigid conditions, followed by, I trust, fine postwork.

!!! I never thought about the beach freezing !!! I wonder what the sand sounds like as you crunch over it. Whether it's slippery or not. How it feels underfoot. I also wonder about the rides at Navy Pier. Does the wind blow spray up on the ferris wheel and freeze in fantastic shapes? Does it damage the parts of the wheel? I'm looking out the window at a beautifully sunny day, and it's in the mid-60s, and I can't fathom frozen sand. This is amazing!

This one definitely gets a 'WOW'! Just love the contrasts of warm golden sun against the icy water and beach. You must have been smiling when you saw this, and clicked, even if your hands were falling off.
