Description

Egad, it must be eons since I last posted Wooden fence #1. Everyone loves a wooden fence. This one has a lot of character. Captured 4/21/09, on my way to a nearby freeway overpass. Have a nice day.

Yes, it's etched with the signs of all those who have passed, scratches and gouges and even an obliterated graffiti tag. I like that the fence boards are a little bowed at top and bottom, and that you lightened around the fence to allow it to be the star. Well done, Harry!

great comment by Denise, and she made me see the slight curve of the boards, which is most appealing. And yes, the fence is visited with all kinds of human markings, which cross the slats. And dramatic areas where the finish has been worn down to the inner wood. (Or perhaps the wood has been sprayed or painted, I can't tell.) As far as lightening the area above the fence, it looks like you've gone high key, and I love it: I love the mere hint of stuff up there, and how that white balances with the white of the sidewalk, and the white at the bottom of the fence planks. You went with the natural abstractness of this, it's big, textured and bold, and bold of you to make it about the fence and almost nothing else. Terrific piece.
