Description
Captured 1/27/15, very early in the am, across the street from my condominium complex.
Philodendron is a large genus of flowering plants in the Araceae family, consisting of about 900 species according to TROPICOS (a service of the Missouri Botanical Garden). Other sources quote different numbers of species: S.J. Mayo reports about 350-400 formally recognised species, whereas Thomas Croat lists about 700. Regardless of number of species, the genus is the second-largest member of the arum family. Taxonomically, the genus Philodendron is still poorly known, with many undescribed species. Many are grown as ornamental and indoor plants. The name derives from the Greek words philo or "love" and dendron or "tree". They are commonly called by their generic name.

Wow, this reminds me that I haven't seen one of these in the longest time...this one is gorgeous, and you got a beautiful portrait with that brilliant light pouring all over it. Excellent work, Harry!

First, I've never seen a philodendron that looked like this. But second, it's a wonderful capture of texture, light, shadow, light on the outlines (of the leaves), burst, etc. It looks like a semi-sparse setting, but the plant is bursting out at us so strongly, the pic becomes rich instead. The light is terrific; and you have a half lit, half shadowed composition, so we see the plant both ways. The curvy edges make the light "swim," here. And, once again, your early morning intense light makes this an in your face burst. Terrific work. (I'm skipping in your gallery, for a change---sorry! I'll return to chronological commenting next time. But it allows me to show up for some more recent pieces, for a change.) Oh, and ps: I don't think Jocko meant his comment, lol: "Wonderfuk"??? Sounds like a hippie word for a gang bang...I'm sure he meant "wonderfuL". L....L....a funny mistake, I'm sure unintentional. (I may jot that one down, I can use it when I want to rile up the admins, here...)
