Description
I haven't seen a tropical island posted in a while, so I decided to see if I could do better than my original islands with what I have learned about layers and overlays. I like this version better than some of my earlier (unpublished) attempts, especially with the funky shadows thrown by the clouds.

More feedback please! I want to know what things you like, as well as dislike. And tips for improvement are always welcome!

Definitely like this one. What's the white? Overlays with transparency? It looks good, as does the surface.

The island surface map could be improved (specially the repartition of the grass, of the rocks ....). Also the clouds shadows are a littke strange ...

I used a 1025x1025 RGB overlay (SO Pack plugin) of a photo of white sandy beach, and distributed it under 20 meters. That made the beaches and gave a little texture to the under-water parts. I made sure the vegetation overlapped the beach with a fuzzy edge. (like an occasional tree) The water was done with a gradient (Waterworks plugin). And the white on the mountain peak was another 1025x1025 RGB overlay (photo of snow), with a distribution above 800 meters. Terrain map comes from a DEM map of somewhere in southern Washington state. I modified the map so it bounded from -80 to 120. (so I could have water level at 0 and play with haze effects if I wanted to.)

The surface of the island is very good but work on the colors

Thanks for all the comments. The only thing I'm not happy with is the water gradient - it fades to dark blue very fast at the blue end of the spectrum. I'm working on a second shot closer to the island, to show the detail of the beach & under water transparencies.

I really like the water and the lighting. Nice job.
