Description
I went to my Writer's Conference the week before last and one of the clinics was on cover design. So I took my cover to a professional. Good news is she though my art was fine. And unsurprisingly, she took issue with my font choice and design. So I updated that. More surprisingly, she pointed out something that, as a lefty, completely escaped my notice. The spaceship was facing the wrong way. So I flipped the image in post. Here is a before and after version for comparison.
Oh, and the cover blurb from the from the last image, that passed muster from the chief editor at Baen. Not that she's going to look at the book again or anything, but it's good to know that I know what I'm doing. I just have to write and submit more stuff.

i agree on the direction of the ship,I like the font change except your name disappears in the bottom area as it is...maybe a different colour or a darker outline would be better! I always felt that you should be wrtiting scifi works based on your accompanying text to your images in the past.

You're looking forward to Jupiter, so the spacecraft shouldn't go back, as in the first cover. Now the eye following the ship goes into the book, not to the back and out of it.

Huh, I know that most times ships in illustrations like that are either pointing upwards or to the right, but I find nothing "wrong" with them pointing to the left, and from a design point of view, tossing an unusual perspective often makes the design more dynamic or have more energy. That said, I do like the second font choice, and the colors help them stand out more. More importantly, I love the terrain with Jupiter in the background, there's just enough to make it recognizable, and the obvious close proximity to Jupiter makes the cover really jump. Love that ship model, too. Congrats on getting even closer with your novel, I can't wait to read it once it comes out!
