Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Very nice shot! I miss the old postboxes that used to be around here.

I love that POV, the red adds.

I can't see any reason to change the postboxes. They were built to last! Super shot Andrea :)

Very elegant with your red guardian adding such punch to the image! I remember the queen once wearing an outfit that must have been based on the postbox we all love!

We should start a campaign Save Our Postboxes.

What a wonderful scene. It must make for a pleasant walk. If a vote from the Colonies means anything, I agree with Katraz. The red post boxes provide added character to your neighborhood.

Thank goodness all the pillar boxes (even here in s***y London) have managed to swerve the plastic attack, although I remember the ones that started to appear in the 70's hideous square things, thank god they soon disappeared. Nice to see a little of our heritage has escaped the foreign garage sales of the tit heads in westminster (small w intentional) Many of out phone boxes got sold and replaced with those god awful stainless steel shower cubicals, or the awful American open style ones, where you can't hear a thing. I remember the old phone booths were much quieter than the modern crap. And smelled better too because they were disinfected at night, now they just reek of piss. Anyway rant over :)

Wow what a beautiful looking area, the large trees look really cool as their leaves overhang each other across the alleyway. Never have seen a mailbox like yours before, kind of reminds me of a fire hydrant. Thanks for sharing Andrea.

I loved the shot when you posted it: I felt at home because it's a road where you live, and I love to photograph the roads where I live (even though mine aren't as sedate and pastoral). I didn't, however, read the comments: You got a lot of reactions to the postal box, and I agree it's beautiful, though it looks like it won't last for that very reason. (And Ronnie: Tell us what you REALLY think, lol.) But as a shot of a road that goes back into paradise, it's beautiful. And slightly misty. And Southern England has the most beautiful big-based trees, with fat bottom-trunks. And is this winter? I mean, I can't believe the greenery you have now, if it is. A very soft, inviting, mystical view. If you live around this all the time, I can see why you'd find a huge city depressing. (Do you feel the same way about London? I've never been, but hope to, one day...) Beautiful. (I'm only supposed to do a few pics right now, to let my arm heal. The usual bi-monthly strain, with physical therapy and all. Age stuff...But I'll do a few now, to let you know I've been looking! And I had to do this one...just so close to home for me.)
