Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper!
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Nice pic and keep that slab way into the future. I see too many people on slabs!

with the way the world is going, I wouldn't be surprised if they downsized the slab Great capture - love that ornament on the fence

time change so many things... beautiful captured look out! not easy to find good neighbors and help..

A wonderful shot, the onlooker must have seen many backbreaking hours of labour! I totally understand your dilemma Andrea. There are so many demands to keeping a good garden in shape! Finding a reliable assistant when chores are demanding seems impossible these days. They all try to be a niche product don't they! Not everyone wants " low maintenance " solutions, we enjoy the challenges of exotic and demanding plants as part of our hobby! I do believe without my garden to motivate me into getting up and doing something everyday I would have been gone by now! I dread to think when I cannot cope how it will end up though!

Great shot Andrea :)

Anyone who would stand on a gate like that has got to have a hole in their head. Have you been able to find any help from the gardening groups in your area?

I am currently without gardener too; can't find one who speaks enough English to understand "remove the weeds" and "don't just blow the leaves into a pile under the shrubs". It shouldn't be that hard! Love this view of your little garden guardian!

I really like this capture, I like the lookout, she looks great there. It's always sad when good neighbours move, I have known that situation. On the brighter side of things you certainly don't live in a shoddy neighbourhood so the calibre of new neighbours will hopefully be fine for you there.

sorry to hear the bad news. must be people out there that still do it the old ways. but guess it all going for the fast money and get to the next lawn. love this photo

I do know a good gardener but unfortunately not in your area.

She is so cute and sad to not be able to find good help. Lets not be talking about slabs yet - I am older than you!

I wonder what what activities in your garden would require a lookout? Gardening is art, for me any other approach is a waste of time.
