Description
My brother called me today. He let me know that Dixie was gone. Dixie was my neighbors pet. For several years, he worked late and I would stop at the end of my driveway and take Dixie for a walk. If I missed a day for some reason, say rain, she would look at me the next day as if to say "whimp". She knew my car and was so very happy to see me. I am not such a dog person, but Dixie gave me no choice. She made me love her. When her owner died, my brother took her as I was not able to keep her. She was about 13 then. Dixie was one of those so special loves. She lived with my brother for the last five years. She made his life better with her special love. I took this a few months ago. The hardest thing about having animals is having the courage to know when to let them go. I know this was hard on my brother. I know he lost another piece of his heart today. I did too. Charles, thank you for loving Dixie, and for helping her today.

My girl Amber died about a year ago, and I miss her so very much. I still tear up some time. So I can relate to your sorrow. But your pain is just a reflection of the love you shared with Dixie. My sorrow is well worth the love Amber brought into my life. And I hope you can find a similar balance. Peace to you and your brother.

Thank you.

A lovely portrait. I feel for Charles. I have had eighteen dogs so far, and said goodbye to fifteen of them. There is always another recipient of ones love in the wings.

We can not, nor should we ever forget, the special love and comfort that animals are so capable... once we let them into our hearts it is forever... You and Charles will both be in my prayers as your heart is heavier with Dixie's passing...

Thank you for your prayers.

Aw, Bev. Another dear friend gone. I know how you feel, and your brother, too. I still feel wet in the eyes when I think of Blackie. I still miss him, despite all the love I give to, and get from Kitty. Yet, when my ratties were all gone, I had Kitty to love. She sat draped around my neck this evening as I was paying my bills. She nuzzles my nose, rubs cheek to cheek and rests her head on my head when I'm relaxing in a bath. She bites me (gently) if she feels I'm forgetting her meals or when at play. I don't want to think of when she's gone, but I think I'll have either ratties or another cat (though it may well outlive me). And you have a lot of little furry friends to give and receive love to/from. Keep up the good work. And remember, you may very well meet Dixie on the other side (info from people who have had near death experiences and have been met by family, friends AND pets). :-)

Charles and I both believe that we will be with our furry family again someday.

I am so sorry for the loss of Dixie. But I do know where you'll find her, you and your brother as well as Charles.
