Description
The Bryce Canyon area was settled by Mormon pioneers in the 1850s and was named after Ebenezer Bryce, who homesteaded in the area along the Paria River in 1874. They primarily raised cattle in the area but a combination of overgrazing and drought eventually drove most settlers east to the Tropic Valley.
Here is a view of Paria Point which will give you an idea of the landscape faced by these early pioneers.
