Description
Ruth Clark was born in 1802 in Lee, Massachusetts. In 1832 she married Sydney Sabin in Groton, New York. In 1870 they moved to a farm in Noble Township in La Porte County, Indiana where Mr. Sabin died in 1886. Three years later, with an investment of $25,000 for grounds and buildings, Ruth Sabin established this home where older women might live comfortably in their later years. She, too, lived there until her death at the age of 92 in 1894.
Today the Ruth Sabin Home is a unique residence for women and men over 65 who do not wish to live alone, but enjoy active social lives. When the home was founded in 1889 as a residence, the generosity of founder Ruth Sabin included the establishment of a trust fund. Today, the home is run as a not-for-profit organization, and the fund is used to offset the cost of maintenance and upkeep for the building and grounds.
