Description

Thank you everyone for your birthday wishes, art, love and thoughts. Both in uploads and in the comments you made to others. I appreciate them all greatly, they helped make number 66 a joy. This is just a "final curtain" to winter, which is now leaving (at least in the N. Hemisphere)... I'll be back to your galleries soon, I promise. But thank you all again. Peace, Mark (best zoomed)

This is beautiful, Mark. I love the range of color tones in this photo - white is predominant of course, but the grays, light blues & blacks combine in a such a rich, harmonious way to create a wonderful urban landscape. The row of buildings on the right are particularly appealing to me - starting with the elegant classic architecture of the first gray structure, to that pale blue building next to it (which matches the color of the snowless patches of sidewalk) & ending with the modern building in the distance whose white color blends into the white sky, making it look like two tall free floating columns of windows. Outstanding...

::: sighs ::: This is what I would love to see outside my door, the pure whiteness that changes everything and brings (at least me!) such joy. I guess I just don't live in the right spot. You're a lucky man, in my book, to get to experience true winter every year. My parents won't consider moving somewhere with a winter; they complain about the cold and wet here, and snow is right out of the running. I loved it when I lived in Minneapolis/St.Paul, and often regret moving away, but it was that time of life when career moves take precedence. This shot is subtle and full of vision, nature's monochrome, beautifully composed. Well done and happy birthday again!

Oh My, it looks so freezing cold that my finger get white just looking at it, but wow, it is beautiful. As younger, I loved the snow in every way. Now I love LOOKING at it, but not beeing in it. :-) Another wonderful shots from your beautiful city. Thank you for sharing this. Makes me happy there isnt snow here. :) Hope spring will show its face for you soon :-)

High key in a laid back style, as portrayed in this masterful late winter capture, Mark. Sterling perspective, clarity, and contrast all come together to bring this image to a glorious motif. Love those barren trees. And, like Denise, we could do with something like that around here, in fact, we could do with any kind of moisture - hot, tepid, cold, freezing, El Niño….anything wet to get rid of this desiccated climate we've been experiencing for years already.

A very lovely and peaceful scene, with the city dressed in winter whites. The snow makes everything look so pristine, so untouched by humanity, and as much as I love gazing at its purity and silence, I am happy to see and hear the new life of Spring.

Mark, first of all allow me to wish you a belated Happy Birthday. Hopefully it went well and you were showered with gifts and love. This last quiet glimpse of winter is a spectacular capture and as always it is clear that a lot of thought went into it. You have a rare talent for finding the most majestic areas in your city and bringing them to life in an almost magical manner through your captures. The snow covered trees are very nice and the buildings in the background add character to they skyline. I'm honestly not going to miss winter, but this photo served to remind me of it's beauty.

First of all, let me say HAPPY (belated) BIRTHDAY!! Hope it was a good one. If you ever feel bummed about getting older, just remember that your youth was in the glorious Sixties, and mine entailed pet rocks, disco, and drip dry polyester clothes.( I bet you feel better all ready.) I love this picture. It has that wonderful you-are-there quality that you do so well. The subdued winter colors-almost monochrome under the blanket of snow- made me originally think the photo was desaturated into black and white, but Chicago does tend to look like that in winter anyway, now doesn't it? I also like how the trees look like they're intertwinded as they head for the horizon line. Anyway, this is a great "soft" looking urban shot, and I love it.

So this is N. Hemisphere, what an impressing photo, Mark! there is such a special peacefully mood all around, if there is only silence and this beautiful deep vieu of historical white houses, with at the end a whole different style, as if there begins a new century of life. Hoping your 66-year will bring you lots of blessings and serenity too (as to see in this image ;-))
