Description
William Blake wrote "The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom". Then where does the palace of excess lead? The guillotine?
This is a humble facade located at Versailles, a place I definitely have mixed feelings about. I am attracted to the incredible art & craftsmanship that is on display there, but repelled by the excess, injustice & tyranny that was the basis for it's construction. My photographic interest is in the beauty on display & I have a few more to share in the next few days, along with other photos from my trip to France in 2009.
This shot took some patience, as I had to wait for a moment when none of the thousands of tourists milling around the palace that day were in my line of sight. There was also a temporary art installation in front of the three doorways here & though it was only a few feet high, it took some effort to Photoshop out...

I agree with your sentiments entirely. I have a saying, "It's easier for a rich man to pass through the eye of a needle than for a Banker to go to prison". not everyone understands me! Agree this needs to be zoomed and appreciated for what it is, not what it represents. Your patience and post-work are much appreciated!!!

I happen to agree with your mixed feelings but I can also enjoy this exquisite photo and the opulent architecture!
