Description

For those that saw my post the other day entitled "The Spy", I thought I would let you get a closer look at the Spy. This is a red eared slider. They are funny little turtles and I enjoy watching them. They love to sun themselves. After this one followed the duck around for a while, it went onto the grass for a snack. I still have no idea why it was following the turtle. I will say that sitting there watching all of this is way better than TV could ever be!

Most attractive creatures. I kept a pair of these for years, and then the female got a cancer and died, and the male pined for her and stopped eating till he too died. They are social animals, maybe he was looking for company.

Aw! So cute! And what a good close-up shot you got! Knowing these little ones I know they aren't easily frightened so getting close isn't all that difficult. And, yes, they're curious, and can hold still quite a while. My brother and I had painted turtles when young. We built labyrinths with our wood blocks. The first attempt through took a lot of time - they were really thinking. The second time through went quicker. The third time took no time at all - they had memorized the maze! So, we made another one. And, yes, they are very social. And they have a homing instinct to the magnetic north pole which helped them learn the labyrinths very quickly. Smart little fellows if you take the time to play with them. Ours didn't eat dried ants eggs, they ate tomato (not the skin), Boston salad, cucumber and chicken liver (had to change their water after that favorite food!). This makes me nostalgic! :-)
