Description
Sometimes I hesitate to post a story with a picture. Sometimes it is just to heartbreaking. Today, I have decided that this little life deserves to have her story told. She is only about 3 hours old. That is the umbilical cord you see on her belly, not quite dry. I got a call related to another cause I work with. When I arrived to help the mom and child, I heard the crying of baby raccoons. I asked her if she knew where they were. She told me that her husband had trapped a wild raccoon that was pregnant. He kept her to sell the babies to hunters. Because she was so scared, she bit him. He responded to this by breaking her back so that she could not come at him again. She had been in that cage for 6 days like that before she gave birth. There were three. One has died. Mom was in such irreversible bad shape that I had her put to sleep. This very tiny baby never even got to nurse.
I am not sure if the last two will make it. This tiny girl is the strongest. Her sister not so much. As I go through each day, I have to wonder if there is enough good to balance such pure evil. When I get such wonderful, caring and supportive response from my friends on Renderosity, I realize that yes, there is still good all over the world.

I'm trying to find the words that could bring comfort to this little one and to you. As I read it, it was a good thing to put the mother to sleep as at least now she isn't suffering anymore. I know you will do your best with the little ones.

I am sat here thinking what I can say. I have no words, I know there are good people out there but I find it so hard when I hear stories like this little girls. To be honest we don't know the half of what goes on. I cannot even begin to believe the mind of these cruel people. The critters are so lucky to have you watching out for them. xxxx

Bev - all I can say is tears in my eyes. I'm SO glad you're around taking care of these little ones. Hunters, a mentality I'll never understand. Seeing animals as targets for their guns. The only "sport" would be a bow and arrow, but even that is dreadful - most animals hit with an arrow get away and die a dreadful death. I sometimes wish there was game season on hunters. I've seen a few very funny YouTube clips of deer beating up hunters! I sincerely hope this little one makes it, but also its siblings. They deserve all the love and caring they can get. Keep up the good work! :-)

I cried at this,how irresponsible to have broken the mothers back,& left the babies with no mother,I am appalled at this so called human being of a man.I pray the others survive.bless you with them,with all my heart.so glad they have you,your their guardian angel.
