well I came out of temporary retirement to comment on this. First, it's such a stunner to see such a vivid abstract painting from you---but it's not abstract because it's very physical and visceral, like we're viewing the rings of a beautiful tree. The sheets of rainbow are like real paint strokes, but also like beautiful wood, aged and very old, or long scarves of a very fibrous fabric. The colors are so full and inviting. It's like Slinky ran up this big rainbow, and ran wildly, straight to a heavenly abode, leaving steps behind for others to follow...but also to tell you that all's ok, you have nothing to worry about. (Slinky's arrived.) It also has a Native American feeling, Pacific Northwest almost; because of the totem-like feeling, to me at least. And I see that the paw marks are like prisms on a rainbow, intensifying and magnifying the colors. A snippet of a long journey to a beautiful place, and we get to see a small part of it because we're on a different journey after all, but we still get to see the footsteps of this joyous departing pet. Do you know the end of one of the great epics of India (the Mahabharata)? A person (Yudhisthira---don't worry, there won't be a quiz!) wants to get into heaven, but heaven won't allow him in, because he has a dog...So he says, "I'd rather NEVER go to heaven than to leave my dog behind..." Thus the gatekeeper---Indra---says: "You've passed my test: Anyone who leaves a dog behind doesn't belong in heaven..." This is a vivid closeup of the pathway leading to that heaven...and I mean it's not the traditional 'heaven-hell' place, but a place of light and freedom and bliss. Beautiful upload, Carol, and so nice to see such a painting in your gallery; it's a real homage to the beauty and everlasting love we have for pets, but also the undying, unconditional love they have for us, to their very last day before climbing their way to someplace very special and blessed. Beautiful piece for pet lovers everywhere...

Just love your wonderful comment, Mark. I did try to give the rainbow a wood-like bridge feel. And your story. Wow! They would never let me into Heaven without my Slinky. Big human and doggie hugs to you, my friend.

Carol, this is a beautiful and thoughtful painting and I'm so sorry for the loss of your dog Slinky a while back. Anyone who loves animals knows it is like losing a member of the family when one of them crosses over the Rainbow Bridge.
