When you first posted this, I thought: What a short poem for such a powerful painting! But the poem says all it needs to say. (Oh the glory of the iris...) Irises always fascinated me because of their primal drooping "wings" (petals), their folds and creases like they were born old and wise and even ornery, the spill of their petals and how they fall all over the space they occupy, and by those yellow carpets in the stamen areas, so primal, strange and exotic...They're like eccentric relatives who know so much and are beautiful and grizzled all at the same time; not always easy to warm up to, but who, when one does, reveal a universe. Your painting---whoosh---it's almost an abstract; and then, it's almost like something painted and put under glass. And then it's like you poured the painting into a section between two panes of glass, and the painting just rushed in and filled in the spaces until it became this massive thing. Or like a painting, period, which is made of constant energies pulsing all over the place. You've got very clear strokes, and the the 'rivers' and 'streams' of the veins are colored and contrasted like passion-made-visible. You're contrasting not only lighter and darker versions of the same hue (your light and dark pinks next to each other, for example), but with pinks and greens, greens and yellows, greens and purples, etc. And while there are individual petals, they are all pulsing with the same meta-energies. And your pov---I'm using a photographic term again, but some of your images have a very photographic composition---takes us right into the middle of this intense coagulation, and there's no end in the image, anywhere. Even your background has deep striations in it---the whole piece is alive with pulsing energies. And that yellow "carpet" looks like a Van Gogh flower painting, emerging out of one of the darker caverns of the image. A remarkable, living image; and, as an evocation of the inner world of an iris, you got the flower dead-on. I think this is what the iris would like to look like, if it had the chance; like the painter who paints a portrait of someone to bring out their inner essence, you've done that with the iris. It's gotta think, "at last someone painted the 'real me'". It's got lots of depth, yet everything seems to be waving to grab out attentions---a very powerful grabbing and passionate image. And beautiful as always. You made irises beam everywhere with this one...
