Description

Around here there is the tradition of the so-called "Sommertagszug" (in english may be: Summer Day parade). It dates back to pre-Christian times. Every year children of the town walk with their sticks to a park where a giant snowman made of paper mâché is burned. It is meant to symbolize the end of winter. This year they walked in combination with the 1250-year parade. Thanks for viewing.

It's the celebration to bretzel, too? The giant character is a constant in all kinds of carnivals it seems. Have a good day!

Yes, the pretzel is a traditional part of the stick, as well as the blown out egg. Many children eat the pretzel already on the way to the park.

Nanu? Blau, weiss und Brezen? Und nicht in Bayern? 8=)) Herrlicher Schnappschuss, schon wegen der Gesichter der Kinder!

the boy on the left foreground looks like he is wondering "now why did I come to this parade"?

Wow, shades of the Munchkins from The Wizard of Oz! Look at all of those happy faces. Great snap of a tradition I was unaware of.

Love it how cheerful the whole scene looks and how everything seems awash in blue. Will they mind if I help myself to those delicious-looking pieces of bread at the top of the sticks? :P
