Description

I'm BAACCCKKKK!!! Oh, have you been gone? I should say so. Thanks a lot for noticing. I was away from my condominium complex, and languishing in a motel, sans computer, several miles away, from 3/24 to 3/26/15, while my row of condo units was being fumigated of termites. The tented units shown above were captured earlier on 3/17/15. Rather than fumigate the whole area at once like it had been done previously, it is now being done piecemeal. These are just five out of sixteen shots I took of the project. The fumigation of the remaining units will probably begin tomorrow. Preparation by the unit residents was nothing short of an exercise in trauma, what with placing in double bags all items destined to be put into one's mouth, from toothpicks, mouthwash, and medicine all the way to a mountain of food stuffs. We also had to open all closet doors, cabinet/chest drawers, appliances, hide our valuables, etc. I stretched out the bagging and opening process over one week, but it still devastated my already devastated lower back, and it took a few more days to get my head back on straight. Anyway, I'm glad my participation in this madcap adventure is over. And, I really do wonder if I was missed by most of the viewers. Ciao.

Wow, what a traumatic and disruptive process! I'm glad you survived it all. Seems like it would be much easier and more eco-friendly to get a bunch of meerkats to live in the complex and keep you all termite-free. Think of the photo ops! And they are so little and cute too... ;) Super captures of the tented buildings hiding the poisonous vapours permeating the living spaces. Hope your aches, pains and mental status settle soon!

What an unpleasant experience you had. The purest nightmare. Those are some huge tents. Great and interesting shots!

Harry, for some reason I can't explain, the text boxes today are simply not picking up on my mouse or keyboard movements. I have to reload the page several times before they do. I've never had this experience on RR before, and I'll write to them when I'm through here. But if I get in a few comments less than I want, it'll be because of that. I keep typing and nothing happens, I keep clicking in the box and nothing happens. And it's not my browser or my mac, as it's worked fine on other sites and in other apps. Well that aside, let me get to this other worldly montage... First, obviously this was an upheaval of major proportions. And for any person who doesn't move like a gazelle (I move like a hippo), it had to be fairly traumatic. I'm, again, very sorry you were put through this. But the photos are eye opening, not only because they are such fascinating subjects, but because you captured such amazing textures in the tenting, and such strong contrasts against that stark driveway/roadway around it. (And with those squared off bushes which, against those tents, suddenly look way out of place.) Among other things, the tenting makes the condo seem so small! I can't explain it, but it has a way of scaling everything down, like you live in very small housing, which I know isn't the case. (It's the size of the stripes, and how few of them there are per unit---scales everything down.) But then, you have this ominous casing against a stark roadway, in some cases near that reddish brick area (or areas, plural), and against a big open sky: It looks almost like a fair before the fair, everything under tents, waiting to be opened...shot in a big fairground. (But for the house in the background of number 2---which clearly means this is a city---this seems oddly abandoned...) You gave us many perspectives, enough to give a full overview; and the amazing thing is that the tents seem to change color deeply, shot to shot. Amazing what the difference of angle can do. The bottom one looks like a collection of candy corns for Godzilla, it's so bright. You also gave us some of the nature around it (bottom shot has the most) which really makes this look like a park shot. And that lone car in number 3---don't know what it's doing there...maybe it's the exterminators, but it brings home the displacing nature of these tents. All in all, a truly fascinating other-worldly bunch, wholly engaging on a visual level; and never have ugly tents been more eye grabbing or alive---they change color, shadow, everything. And those big yellow exhaust things (I assume that's what they are)---I mean the snakes going up the side of the tents---make it seem like big caterpillars are escaping the insides and making their way up to the roofs. An amazing collection, making something good out of this terrible experience. And I'm very glad you got back, and in one piece, despite the pain and fatigue of the experience. Amazing shots.
