Description
As I have mentioned previously, I spent a lot of my time out by my friend's home in the country. Summer days could sometimes be spent doing nothing good; but nothing truly destructive either, playing around out in fields or the near by creek.
My grandmother had a 1967 Camaro, in fact, light blue as the one in the image. Her's wasn't all fixed up like this one, but a very basic model with hub caps, vinyl interior, and it didn't even have power steering or brakes either. But grandma grew up without those modern conveniences, so it having an automatic was about as "new school" as she had gotten at that moment in her automotive lifetime.
Anyhow, one year, some of our summer days were spent playing around in a big field. There were some small ditches hidden in the tall grass, but it didn't seem to create any sort of problem for what we were doing, they just added to the excitement. My friends had their cars and trucks, I had my mother's car as I had not yet begun to even work yet. But we had a blast flying through the grass; each vehicle swinging and zooming past the other. I hadn't even realized it until much later, I had managed to take home an awful lot of that field, both inside and outside of the car. Later on noticing clumps of the grass hanging from around the front license plate, bumper, and just about any sharp edge under the car. As for what came inside, that was just what you got stuck with for having the windows open on those hot summer days. It seems the activity shot up grass much like a lawn mower, the loose blades floating in and landing where they happened to.
I had grown to want my grandmother's Camaro some day. I remember washing it with her out in her driveway as a child. Sometimes going to a local carwash with her too. Back then carwashes weren't so common here, so it was a new and interesting experience as a young child.
In high school the Camaro met it end. My grandmother on her way home from grocery shopping had a woman pull out of another carwash directly into her path. My grandmother survived the incident, sadly the beloved Camaro did not. I will always wonder though, what or where would it be today if it weren't for that fateful shopping trip. Would it still be in our family's possession, or would we have eventually parted with it. One will never know, though I do know that it had been bought from the collision shop that had towed it away. We'll never know who bought it, but there's hope it's still on the road for some purpose; but it's just not in the family anymore. : (
Sometimes I just wish I could go back to those less demanding, and more adventurous times. You never realize just how quickly those days and life in general begun to pass until so much of it has already gone.
Thanks for viewing!

Oh, the memories! While in the Army assigned in VA, I had a pale blue '67 Firebird. It came with the 326 V8 & Powerglide. I built it up with a Ram-Air 400 engine, matched ports, high stall speed torque converter and HD transmission w/shift kit. I had trouble driving it on Post, without the MPs hassling me. Sadly, after I sold it, the Private that bought it rolled it on the Interstate near Richmond. The junk yard got it for fraction of what I had just put into the engine. That car is on my list of vehicles I wish I had never parted with.

We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way. La la la la... Those were the days, oh yes those were the days…... A most excellent poignant image of you and the Camaro in this pastoral setting. Sorry to read that it had such a premature traumatic ending to its beloved career. At least your grandmother survived the accident, which is the most importance thing.
